Nancy Sun is a dedicated music educator and private piano teacher with a passion for teaching students with diverse learning styles. She began her piano studies at the age of eight and has served as a church pianist since the age of twelve. Nancy also serves as a church choir conductor, further deepening her involvement in community music.
Nancy is an associate faculty member in the Music Department at West Valley College, where she teaches beginning and intermediate piano courses. She also joined San Jose State University's Music Department as a faculty member and project advisor for the department's Three Summers Master’s program. Additionally, she taught at the Young Musician's Project from 2017 to 2018 and has been invited as a guest lecturer at San Jose State University.
Nancy holds an Associate of Arts in Music from West Valley College, a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA, and a Master of Music in Music Education from San Jose State University. Her primary research focus is on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a framework that promotes inclusive learning environments and minimizes barriers for students of varying abilities and learning styles.
Since 2015, Nancy has been teaching piano, voice, and music theory at her private studio in Los Gatos, California, where she instructs students ranging from elementary school age to adults. Her students who participate in the annual Certificate of Merit examination through the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) consistently achieve excellent ratings.
Nancy is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), Santa Clara Chapter.
